It can take years before a disaster strikes but that does not mean that measures to deal with them when they happen should not be put in place. Many countries have highly invested in disaster management. They ensure that the necessary equipment needed in search time are availed and are in good working condition. Civilians are also taught on how to make use of them. There are specific ones that are used in helicopter search and rescue training.

Among these items is the winch. It is used to air lift people as well as drop the place occupants in places that are not conducive for landing. It is attached to the base of the helicopter in most cases and can be disbanded at any given time. In training, the trainees use them to practice on how to airlift as well as ascend using them.

Search and rescue mission may take place at nights. It may not be easy to have clear visual of the ground at the height operated on by the rescue team. They use a special type of a torch known as a nitesun. It is preferred so because it provides a lot of light. Those on training have to be made familiar to it and shown on how to operate them effectively.

While on the ground at night, night vision glasses are used especially in regions that are dimly lit. They are special in that they give very clear vision making it easy to perform the task at hand. The glasses are also used to identify lively things such as animals or human beings through the look on some of their part. This is a skill that has to be instilled during training.

There are special types of vest worn during search and rescue mission. They are made in a way that they contain other vital items in them. Such items include strobes, torch and a whistle. They may be heavy in a way and not comfortable to many. Trainers are made familiar to using them at an earlier stage to ensure that they are comfortable when in official duties.

A flight helmet is worn while in the helicopter. This is a protective gear in that it protects the head in case there is an accident. It also has some additional features such as a microphone for communication and extra night vision glasses. It is mandatory for every occupant in the flight to have them on which is part of the reason they are used in training.

At no time should a rescue team go on a mission blindly. There must be a specific region that they have to concentrate on in any given time. Direction finder gadgets are important in such time. Some are attached to the helicopter while others are portable. The gadgets are availed in training for demonstration and learning on how to put them in use.

Every rescuer should be in a position to undertake first aid and give attention to those with injuries. To facilitate this, they are equipped with some medical tools. They are trained on how to use them practically to avoid cases where fatalities results due to wrong usage.
